KNOWING ME
Like the seagull I come in on the wings of a high tide, sketching my own shoreline… writing my own song. I am an original and that’s enough.

I love writing. Full stop. To me writing is an outlet. It’s a personal thing that lets my inner voice be heard across a wider audience. It makes me feel connected and happy.
Speaking of happiness, I can say that to be happy lies in managing expectations. Let that settle in for a moment. The truth is, expectations and reality seldom coincide. So, the trick is to accept situations for what they are. Life is full of expectations, but those expectations rarely become reality. It is what we choose to do with disappointments that define the person we choose to be. Makes sense?
And then there’s my love for nature. Looking around, it hurts me to see the disconnect between us and nature. I don’t see why we cannot establish that wonderful communion with nature that comes with so much abundance. All we need to do is clear the blockages and embrace the bounties that nature gives so freely.
A big part of my life is being a carer for my wife who has been on the receiving end of the dreaded disease called MS. Being a carer has enlightened me about the true meaning of compassion. Yeah, nobody should suffer. Not a single living being.
Learning about the true essence of compassion has given me a new purpose in life. Day by day I grow in the understanding that spiritual growth doesn’t come when I’m on my yoga mat with me eyes shut. But instead it occurs in the midst of struggle, frustration, challenges and pain.
Most of all, I now understand the full potency of kindness in a world intent on manufacturing prejudice, segregation and inequality.
KNOWING YOU
I want to know you because we coexist. Simple. We live for human connection. We need each other. That’s the fundamental fact about social cognition. It involves being able to put myself in someone else’s shoes and get closer to understanding their mental landscape.
I love to explore another’s feelings, beliefs, experiences and intentions which puts me in a better position to empathise and think about things from another point of view. That is the empath in me talking. Experience has taught me that greater empathy leads to more charitable and compassionate behaviour.
Knowing you fulfills my desire for new interactions. Knowing you makes me want you to feel good, wanted and valued. These are powerful feelings that help me meet people and develop friendships.

Poetry
I’m here because I love writing. It allows that quiet voice inside me to be heard across a wider audience. Poetry allows my ideas to connect, relate and pollinate. As a poet I have accepted that no writer ever reaches his full potential. It is a journey that has its twists and turns.
To me words make heroes and villains, poets, and prophets… it opens an amazing world of people with different hopes, desires, and aspirations. They even have the potential to take us to higher ground. I believe words have the power to shape worlds.
Through my poetry I can sometimes meander aimlessly but sometimes I am compelled to write because I feel strongly about an issue. With poetry my mind, body, and my soul are in a constant state of flux…searching, exploring, feeling, inventing, sharing. But amidst this fountain of thoughts and feelings, words reign supreme. They invade my keyboard.
There are times I can feel the emotions and words threading each line and paragraph with a velvet needle. Sometimes it’s the stark reality laid bare. But once in a while, out of a painful process, a viscerally vivid piece is born.
